Jupiter Talisman 2

We have a great aspect with Jupiter being in exaltation and with this we can work with him to aid in success, fortune and prosperity and good luck. When we work with him he has to be in either his rising or culmination and well dignified with the Moon and separated from malign planets that could cause interference with his work. Remember Jupiter is the Jovian energy he is god like above all the others, the Father to all the Gods and Goddesses.

I will be looking at an upcoming date for the next Jupiter Talisman to be cast and consecrated on the 3rd day of October 2013, San Juan, PR, AST/EDT at the hour of 07:00 am on Jupiter day in Jupiter hour. The images in which I shared for the election that we had back in 2013 July will be the same images and you will use the same invocation as well. Using Frankincense or Storax as your resin incense and gold and purple candles.

I will of course put more information up for everyone and good casting.

It is best to work with Jupiter when he is well dignified in your own chart as that will increase the energy and manifestations of your workings with him. If you have any questions or would like your chart cast to see where is sits in your chart just contact me directly.

Golden Dawn and its Connection to Freemasonry

This Temple [Isis-Urana No.3] was consecrated as a successor to Hermanubis No.2 which had ceased to exist , owing to the decease of all its Chiefs.

The Temple No. 1 of Lichte, Liebe, Leben is a group of continental mystics who have not been in the habit of performing ceremonies in open lodge…

‘Historical Lecture’ of the Golden Dawn[1]

The origins of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the wellspring of almost all modern occult thought and practice, is a matter of some controversy.  The Golden Dawn was founded on the discovery of a manuscript in cipher that, when subsequently deciphered, formed the basis of its ritual.  Where this ritual ultimately originated is a mystery as is the role of an address that was found with the manuscript, an address of a Rosicrucian adept in Germany who was to give permission for the ‘re-establishment’ of an English branch of the Order.

Mercury Talisman; 2013 Sept 4

We are fortunate to have one of our favourite astrological talismans coming up in September, the Mercury Talisman.  Mercury is in exaltation now in his own sign, we always look for Mercury to manifest his energy into our lives, this particular talisman is for that of Good Will, Wit and Increased Memory something we can all use. This was calculated for San Juan, PR region, however, you can recalculate to your region and time-zone just by setting your information to your areas Sunrise time.

Talisman for Good Will, Wit and Increased Memory - 2013 4 Sept

Talisman for Good Will, Wit and Increased Memory – 2013 4 Sept

This talisman is calculated for Wednesday the 4th day of September 2013 at 07:05 or 7:05 am, Mercury hour on Mercury day he has a +11 in dignity he is in ruler, exalt and face.  Mercury is conjunct the Sun and the Moon is not afflicted.  Note:  This talisman has a small window for consecration you have from 7:05 am to finish it by 7:15 am.

The image is that of a man sitting upon a chair or riding a peacock having eagles feet and on his head a crest and in his left hand holding a cock or fire. Herb:  Marjoram, Parsley and Dill, there are many others but these are the base ones to use you may also use Basil. If you can get your hands on sheet metal you can use tin or silver, silver being if you have virgin silver.  You may also use the stone of Mercury Agate to engrave your images onto the night prior to consecration.  However, you may also use virgin bees-wax or parchment paper as well.

Draw the above image on the front of the talisman an the image of the Seal of Mercury his sigil and his intelligence on the back of the sigil.  If using parchment paper carry this talisman on you in school, when writing or studying, or when you are just wanting all together good energy around you, it is good will.  If on metal or stone wear it around your next on a string if you can otherwise just put it in a lavender mojo bag and place it in your purse or pocket on the left side (whenever you are out), remember it is in your pants so you do not wash it.

Mercury Talisman; Agrippa

Mercury Talisman; Agrippa

You will draw the following symbols on the back your talisman the Magic Square of Mercury and the sigil of Mercury underneath the Magic Square then you will draw his intelligence on the back side with along with the Seal of Mercury (I am attaching the image of the one Agrippa has in his book Three Books of Occult Philosophy for your benefit).  I am also including the magic square so you can see how it is to look.  The Mercury Magic Square adds up to 2080 the Hebrew letters that are used on talismans (just draw them with a true heart and their magic will manifest).

Remember to note you have two images to choose from when drawing or engraving, the first one is the best one to use as it is easier for most to understand

At the appropriate hour light your candle (Yellow for Mercury) and your incense for suffumigation of your talisman ready, you will invoke Mercury using his Orphic Hymn and while chanting his hymn you will suffumigate your talisman holding it over the smoke of the incense.  Once you have finished leave the candle burning until it has burned completely out on its own.  You will chant this hymn eight times as this is the number of Mercury.

The Orphic Hymn to Mercury

The Fumigation from Frankincense

Hermes, draw near, and to my pray’r incline, Angel of Jove, and Maia’s son divine; Prefect of contest, ruler of mankind, With heart almighty, and a prudent mind. Celestial messenger of various skill, Whose pow’rful arts could watchful Argus kill. With winged feet ’tis thine thro’ air to course,

O friend of man, and prophet of discourse; Great life-supporter, to rejoice is thine In arts gymnastic, and in fraud divine. With pow’r endu’d all language to explain, Of care the loos’ner, and the source of gain. Whose hand contains of blameless peace the rod, Corucian, blessed, profitable God. Of various speech, whose aid in works we find,

And in necessities to mortals kind. Dire weapon of the tongue, which men revere, Be present, Hermes, and thy suppliant hear; Assist my works, conclude my life with peace, Give graceful speech, and memory’s increase.

Numerology and Arithomancy; the Vibration of Numbers

By Ariana Clausen-Vélez

When we use numerology or Arithomancy to the latter being seldom used today but was used in ancient times by Pythrogoras to determine the nature of a person by adding up the numbers in one’s name.  Today numerology is used to show us what energy we carry in our name.  However, there is yet another system which is used in the Qabala called Gematria is another system of numerology in which is used in working with the Tree of Life and the Qabala system.

When we look at the naming of our children, our businesses, changing of our names many in the Qabala, Golden Dawn, Hermetic, Occultists do something that most people do not do, we look at the name and then put the numbers to it to see what energy is carried in the name.  This can determine one’s success or journey’s in life for business or lifetime.  Names mean many things and the strength of the name with the numerical value can make a big difference in the journey we endeavour.  It is much like that of the planets, numbers have a specific vibration as do the planets they associate to both the positive and negative of a vibration and can take us on many of an interesting journey.

I have been having fun all week with names, mine in particular however, I will be using for this article the name of Giordano Bruno.  While there is not found record of his actual birthday we do know he was born in 1548.  In gematria there is no association to the number 1548 but to the number 548 we find the association to the Clayish Ones, Qlippoth of Libra the Herd of the Qlippoth of Aries and YHVH Eloah va-Daath Lord God of Knowledge, divine name associated with Tiphareth on the Tree of Life which is the located in the Middle Pillar and of the 6th Sephiroth in the Tree of Life, it is associated to the Swords it is in between the paths of Justice, the Hermit, Death and the Devil.  The Qabalists link this Sephiroth to Christ because of its direct descent from Kether which does represent God and that of the Sun which is vital energy.  It is the lion, the phoenix, the child.  It is a sacrificed child and in the tarot the Hanged Man which represents that of one suffering at the hand of another having to descended into darkness before he can be of the light, sacrifice for the greater good of something greater.  In Giordano Bruno’s case it was for man to have the free will not taken away from them, for man to know that beyond the our earth there was life in other dimensions, that we are not alone, and in the end, for ultimate Justice for all the wrong doings on humanity from the hands of man and the Church.  All he taught and knew was right he had to suffer, by being imprisoned and tortured, seeing what man thought was darkness when Giordano saw all the light in heavens from this journey he was destined to travel.  He did not fear he fought against the devil himself that was created by the church and death was his final end.  It is the Sephiroth of Beauty and six is associated the planet of Venus which is the planet of Libra.  What is the Qlippoth?  It is the Tree of Death and the realm of demonic spirit it is the exact opposite of the Tree of Life.

When we look at the name Giordano Bruno we come up with the numbers for Giordano being 79694156 and Bruno 29356 adding up to the number 72/9.  Now, when we look at the number 72 in gematria it is associated to number of quinances in the Zodiac (this meaning all of the faces that are throughout each zodiac sign, each one have three faces and all being of various planetary natures), it is also the number of names for God it is also the number of names of Shem ha-Mephorash, the number of Goetic demons (which Bruno could call on and command), the number of joints in the human body.  It is associated on the Tree of Life to the Pillar of Mercy which is the right side of the Tree of Life and the seventh Sephiroth Chesed and the colour of blue and Jupiter (God), it is also that of the World of Atziluth, and he is is nobility the highest of the four Cabalistic worlds, he is Father and Yod of the Tetragrammaton.  The number seventy-two is also that Archangel of Sagittarius (Zadikiel) and of the Hebrew word Gilgul which means one who is revolving, transmigration and reincarnation.  Giordano Bruno was all of this and he reincarnated from the 12th century when in Italy there was seen a star, comet that hit the Moon and that star in the sky that hit the Moon was called Giordano  Bruno (  Now we look at the number 9, nine is the number of completion prior to starting a journey or life from the beginning; it is the number of squares in the kamea of Saturn and that of the metal lead.  It is of the ninth path of the Sephiroth that of Binah and Saturn and the colour dark grey and on the left side of Tree of Life on the path of Severity.  When we turn the number 72 around we see the number 27 (this is the day in which Giordano’s descendant was born and in that year the documents regarding his murder and inquisition were once again brought out into the light to reveal his innocence).  In gematria twenty-seven in the number in which is the path between Netzach and Hod, Netzach being on the Pillar of Mercy and the fourth sephiroth and Hod on the Pillar of Severity and the third septhiroth and the Hebrew word Zak which means pure, clear, transparent and innocent.

If you anything about Giordano Bruno you would know these numbers in which his name adds up to is right on target for his life after he left the monastery.

In numerology we also look at how many of each number appears in one’s name and this determining many things, depending on how many of an individual number appears.

  • He has one number one appearing in his name and this interprets one who finds it difficult to show their feelings openly.
  • He has one number two appearing in his name and this interprets one not coping well in a competitive environment and can take criticism to heart.
  • He has one number three in his name and it inclines him to an extraordinary memory and one is bright and alert.  He taught the Art of Memory and how to retain what one was taught by association to the seven paths of Azoroth in Hermetic Philosophy.
  • He has one number four in his name inclining one to be of cleverness and their hands always doing something as well as happiest when making or doing.
  • He has two fives in his name this inclining him being a well balanced person despite any challenges.
  • He has three sixes in his name inclining to a life of chaos and over protective of those they love as well lack of order in their own life.
  • He has one seven in his name, showing that only through suffering can wisdom and understanding be gained.  He endured many paths in the dark and found from that the greatest of wisdom and understanding.
  • Lastly he has two nines in his name which shows one to place very high standards on themselves, critical of others.  Very serious people, thoughtful and with little or no sense of humour very grave nature.

What I find interesting is rarely does any one person have the entire span of numbers in their name he is only missing the eight all other number appear in his name which is not common.

Finally seeing that we are unique and fascinating individuals we are all born to a destiny, a path in which we are to take, but in the end we can define our future by the paths and choices we make.  The planets, numbers, colours, associations and the vibrations are our guide it is up to us to manifest our lives for a greater understanding and wisdom.

What do you think would happen if everyone paid attention to their own personal vibrations and energy that they emit out into the Universe?  It would be amazing to say the least.

The Old Religion & the Law of Attraction

By Ariana Clausen – Vélez

2013 July

“The Principles of Truth are Seven; he who knows these understandingly, possesses the Magic Key before whose touch all the Doors of the Temple fly open”  The Kybalion.

The Seven Hermetic Principles, upon which the entire Hermetic Philosophy is based, are as follows:  These principles are based on the Emerald Tablet and those things in which Thrice Greatest Hermes teaches.

I.        The Principle of Mentalism

II.        The Principle of Correspondence

III.        The Principle of Vibration

IV.        The Principle of Polarity

V.        The Principle of Rhythm

VI.        The Principle of Cause and Effect

  1. The Principle of Gender

The Emerald Tablet (Compiled from several early Latin and German versions)

  1. In truth, without deceit, certain, and most veritable.  (Principle of Mentalism)
  2. That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that is Above corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracles of the One Thing. And just as all things have come from this One Thing, through the meditation of the One Mind, so do all created things originate from the One Thing, through Transformation.  (Principle of Correspondence)
  3. Its Father is the Sun; its mother the Moon.  The Wind carries it in its belly; its nurse is the Earth.  It is the origin of All, the consecration of the Universe; its inherent Strength is perfected, if it is turned into Earth.  (The Principle of Vibration)
  4. Separate the Earth from Fire, the Subtle from the Gross, gently and with great Ingenuity.  It rises from the Earth to heaven and descends again to Earth, thereby combining within Itself the powers of both the Above and the Below.  (Principle of Polarity)
  5. Thus will you obtain the Glory of the Whole Universe.  All Obscurity will be clear of you.  This is the greatest Force of all powers, because it overcomes every Subtle thing and penetrates every Solid thing.  (Principle of Rhythm)
  6. In this way was the Universe created.  From this come many wondrous Applications, because this is the Pattern.  (Principle of Cause and Effect)
  7. Therefore am I called Thrice Greatest Hermes, having all three parts of the wisdom of the Whole Universe.  Herein have I completely explained the Operation of the Sun.  (Principle of Gender)

So what does any of this have to do with the Craft, the Old Religion, Christianity, Druidism, Muslim or any religion and the Law of Attraction for that matter?  It has everything to do with it, it is the foundation of All.  It is the foundation of magic and all in which we manifest into our lives for the good or the bad.  It is the source to the All.  To understand how one you have to understand the other.  To begin the Law of Attraction is not a new thing, it is something that dates back to the beginning of humanity and the first incarnation of Hermes Trismegitus who was the author of the sacred texts Hermetic Corpus and was also known to the Egyptians as Thoth.  Both Thoth and Hermes were gods of writing and of magic in their respective cultures. Thus, the Greek god of interpretive communication was combined with the Egyptian god of wisdom as a patron of astrology and alchemy. In addition, both gods were psychopomps; guiding souls to the afterlife.  Hermes, Thoth, Mercury is the only God that can walk in both the underworld to guide those souls that have passed and the living world.  He is life and death, light and dark.

The Craft is known as the Old Religion it has been around as long as the beginning of humanity.  The Old Religion is not an easy path for anyone to follow, it comes with great sacrifice and solitary workings, it is however, the path in which focuses on the healing arts, astrology, alchemy and magic, which are the three main paths of a Hermetic teachings.  All leading to the Mystic Will, the Law of Attraction, Manifestation of those things we desire the most to have in our lives be it for the spiritual or the material for they are both connected you cannot have one without the other.  It is magic; it is of the mind of the All, One Mind created which is reached from the base of the One Thing.

However, to understand this you need to understand the Seven Hermetic Principles and how they work in our daily lives.  We all do magic, be it in our words, thoughts, feelings, deeds, actions and reactions it is all magic as it comes from the soul which is the heart.

When the Craft is taught and practiced correctly you will find all of these principles embodied not only in the magic but in how you find that deeper connection to self from within, it is used to find inner healing, too communicate with those entities in other dimensions and realms, to guide us to a greater understanding and knowledge of the All that is within us all.  The understanding of the stars and the planets in astrology, an understanding of the elements and how to transform them in alchemy and in that All magic exists, this is the Old Religion, the Craft of the Wise.  When we do our work we tap into our mental universe to manifest it into matter.

We will begin by looking at the first Principle or Rubric; “The Principle of Mentalism”.  “The All is Mind; The Universe is Mental.”  This Principle embodies the truth that “All is Mind.”  The mind creates everything and controls everything, it manifests from the subconscious to the conscious world whether you realise it or not, words do not matter in this case because when you think something for example you send out mentally that you are an amazing, beautiful, successful business man or woman you will materialise this into your life, this being the ride handed side which is of the material plane in where all things manifest into matter.  Also, on the other hand if you are full of self-doubt and feel you are the worth nothing, this will manifest into your life, you will always fail at what you set out to do, be it in love, career, life “The Mind is All”.  What you allow into it will manifest into your material world.

A quote from the Kybalion; “An understanding of this great Hermetic Principle of Mentalism enables the individual to readily grasp the laws of the Mental Universe, and to apply the same to his well-being and advancement.”

Within magic as well as the Law of Attraction we all whether we know it or not work with these principles, be it consciously or subconsciously, our mind is the one connection we have to the All, to everyone we are at some point of the same mind with, the same level or mental capabilities with and we draw to that energy and people, in that we are using the Law of Attraction to connect to those people who end up in our lives.  It is that of mind and hearts all truth.

We take a stone which is a natural object of the earth, some would call this an amulet, a found object, now when you sit down and hold it in your hands and close your eyes you are taking the time to mentally connect to this object, how it was created, where it came from, the energies it will have that you connect to, to manifest that which you seek in your life.  Let us say it is quartz, quartz is clear but within the family it has many colours, magical connections, healing connections, god and goddess connections, planetary connections, numerical vibrations and sounds that from the earth it has grown to carry within this small object that is literally of the earth.  It began as a base object nothing but dirt or solid black stone and over time, many millions of years as it connected to the Mental the All it begins to take form and create its’ own unique shape it manifests into something amazing and beautiful and from that we can mentally connect to the beginning of this object.  It starting out as nothing and ending up as something amazing and beautiful.  This is the Law of Attraction, this is magic this is what we do in the Craft, the Old Religion, and all paths that are of healing, light of both the dark and light for from the darkness light manifests and creates something amazing and enlightened, illuminated when we allow what we want from within to create in our spiritual and material world.

From the Gnostic Bible, chapter the Paraphrase of Shem; Darkness sees the Spirit & Darkness Ejaculates Mind into the Womb of Nature; “When the darkness stirred, the light of the spirit appeared to him.  When he saw it he was astonished.  He did not know that another power was above him.  And when he saw that his likeness was dark compared with the spirit, he felt hurt.  And in him pain lifted up, above the height of the members of darkness, his mind, which was the eye of bitterness of evil.  He caused his mind to take shape in a member of the portions of the spirit, thinking that, by staring down at his evil, he would be able to equal the spirit.  But he was not able, for he wanted to do an impossible thing, and it did not take place.  But in order that the mind of darkness, which is the eye of the bitterness of evil, might not be destroyed, since he was made partially similar, he arose and shone with a fiery light upon all of Hades, that the equality of the faultless light might become apparent.  For the spirit benefited from every form of darkness because he appeared in his majesty.

And the exalted, infinite light appeared, for he was very joyful.  He wished to reveal himself to the spirit.  And the likeness of the exalted light appeared to the unconceived spirit.  I appeared.  I am the son of the incorruptible, infinite light.  I appeared in the likeness of the spirit, for I am the ray of the Universal light.  And his appearance to me was in order that the mind of darkness might not remain in Hades.  For the darkness made himself like his mind in a portion of the members.  When I, O Shem, appeared in the likeness, so that the darkness might become dark to himself, according to the will of the majesty, and so that the darkness might become devoid of every aspect of the power that he possessed, the mind drew the chaotic fire, with which it was covered, form the midst of darkness and the water.  And from the darkness the water became a cloud, and from the cloud the womb took shape.  The chaotic fire, which was a deviation, went there.

“And when the darkness saw the womb, he became unchaste.  And when he had aroused the water, he rubbed the womb.  His mind dissolved down to the depths of nature.  It mingled with the power of the bitterness of darkness.  And the womb’s eye ruptured at the wickedness of the order that she might not again bring forth the mind.  For it was a seed of nature from the dark root.  And when nature had taken to herself the mind by means of the dark power, every likeness took shape in her.  And when the darkness had acquired the likeness of the mind, it resembled the spirit.  For nature rose up to expel it; she was powerless against it, since she did not have a form from darkness.  For she brought forth the cloud.  And the cloud shone.  A mind appeared in it like a frightful, harmful fire.  The mind collided against the unconceived spirit, since it possessed a likeness from him, in order that nature might become empty chaotic fire.

And immediately nature was divided into four parts.  They became clouds that varied in appearance.  They were hymen afterbirth, power, and water.  And the hymen and the afterbirth and the power were chaotic fires.  And the mind was drawn from the midst of the darkness and the water – since the mind was in the midst of nature and the dark power – in order that the harmful waters might not cling to it.  Because of this, nature was divided, according to my will, in order that the mind may return to its power, which the dark root, mixed with the mind, had taken from it.  And the dark root appeared in the womb.  At the division of nature the dark root separated from the dark power, which it possessed form the mind.  The mind went into the midst of the power – this was the middle region of nature.

It all comes from the same place, the Law of Attraction is this, magic is this, Old Religion is this, as is everything in which we create from our mental universe.

When it comes down to it we all do magic no matter what path we may follow it all comes from the same place.  Every principle is mentioned in the above paraphrases of Shem.  Shem is the son of Anu the Sumerian God who is the Father of all and from him all things manifest from base to illumination.

The ancient philosophers knew this, Akhenaton, Balinas, Empedocles, Paracelsus, Socrates, Aristotle, Bruno, Galileo, Copernus, Hypatia and many, many more (the first two being the reincarnated Thoth).  They knew that all was in the Mind and in the Universe and because of them we have the Law of Attraction as it is called today and it is used by Craft and everyone who truly understands what real magic is the mind and heart.

Within Traditional Astrology the planets in which are those of the time of the Babylonian’s and those planets they saw in the sky.  While yes, there are the fixed stars these are very much a part of those readings of Traditional, Medieval, and Ancient Astrologers they were not part of the planets or the ancient signs or how the houses set up.  The fixed stars are that, fixed and when the planets move along in their precession they at some point are conjunct with various fixed stars in the heavens and in that of the native during the time of the birth and are significant in their nature and those characteristics and nature of the native, their likes, dislikes, good and ill events that occur in their life time.  Renaissance Astrologers would also use this system to diagnose diseases in what we call today as Medical Astrology by looking at the Moon’s luminary at the time of the contracting of the disease to decide how to cure it, if it could be cured and how long one would be with this illness.

The colours attributed to the signs and planets are; Saturn is of the colour black, Jupiter is to the colour blue, Mars is to the colour red, Sun is to the colour yellow, Venus is to the colour green, Mercury is to the colour orange, and the Moon is to the colour purple for the use of talismans.  The numbers next to the planets are the number the planet is associated too and when doing talisman work it used to create what is called the magic square of the planet or the kamea of the planet to aid in doing specific workings with the individual planets to aid in petitions and prayers to manifest the law of attraction, your will into your life.

Also looking at what the Babylonian’s performed in their astronomy and astrologer they had specific prayers and invocations to the gods and goddess to invoke the energy of the planets they ruled and their luminaries to send petitions to the gods to aid them in magical workings or to bring good fortune during times of eclipses to remove all forms of sickness, depression and to bring healing, enlightenment and more.

17th Century Chart

The signs have progressed over since the beginning of time, the Ancient Astronomy chart the signs in the following order, the chart above is a chart from the 17th Century and the signs are in the following order.  Aries in the 9th house, Taurus in the 8th house, Gemini in the 7th house, Cancer in the 6th house, Leo in the 5th house, Virgo in the 4th house, Scorpio in the 3rd house, Sagittarius in the 2nd house, Capricorn in the 1st house, Aquarius in the 12th house and Pisces in the 11th house.

The only reason I can see is that below the heavens is focused on the material plane that of material possession and those things one obtains in estate, fortune, all things of base nature, and those other signs are above the heavens because they are more alike that of the Mental Plane and those things one gains when seeking for enlightenment.  Yet when looking at the houses and the signs associated to them it makes perfect sense.  When in one’s native chart they have Saturn in the 1st house this is the house of one’s survival and how they will live throughout their life time.  When Capricorn is here and that of Saturn is inclines one to be fortune in money and to always be of great wealth, the same with Jupiter who rules Sagittarius the house in this case of the estate.  So when you have Capricorn here and Saturn with him you have him in his house so it brings all things of earthly fortunes.

In Ancient Astronomy the houses were again placed as they were in the times of the first astronomers and astrologers the Babylonians, so the placement again is different.  As looking at the date of when astronomy is dated back to from its inception we can find records from the Babylonian cuneiform from the date of the “Old Babylonian Period”, 1700 B.C thru 1600 B.C., this was the time in which Venus was observed.  However, I am not going to cover all of this, for as it is the oldest form of divination it is also one of the hardest to follow and understand.

So how the Babylonian names were again placed are different from that of the time of the 17th century astrologers and astronomers.  When we look at the Ancient Planetary theory we find the houses were set up in the original form as was seen in the heavens during the time of the Old Babylonian Period and this is how the signs were originally placed.  As back then the houses were not associated by numbers only be above and below the horizon or to the east or west in horizon I will include so you the reader may better understand how the house and planets within them would have appeared.   The chart appears today according to this 1st house Aries, 2nd house Taurus, 3rd house Gemini, 4th house Cancer, 5th house Leo, 6th house Virgo, 7th house Libra, 8th house Scorpio, 9th house Sagittarius, 10th house Capricorn, 11th house Aquarius and 12th house Pisces.  Now, in Ancient times it was as follows:  Libra 1st house, Scorpio 2nd house, Sagittarius 3rd house, Capricorn 4th house, 5th house Aquarius, 6th house Pisces, 7th house Aries, 8th house Taurus, 9th house Gemini, 10th house Cancer, 11th house Leo and 12th house Virgo, remembering the Babylonian did not number the house placements for the signs they used the decan system in which each sign has three faces and this depending upon the date in which you were born.  An example being today being the 15th of July this puts Sun in Cancer in his third face the nature of the luminary the Moon, at the beginning of the sign we have for the sign of Cancer 21 June – 1 July this is of the planet nature of Venus the first face/decan of the sign and then from the 2 July – 11 July that of the planet nature of Mercury in the second face.  This is how the ancients read a person’s destiny and this is how that Traditional, Renaissance, Medieval astrologers today also read the charts.

Note:  The outer planets, Pluto, Uranus and Neptune are not used in Traditional astrology as they carry the same characteristics of their traditional planets, Mars in the Night, Saturn in the Night and Jupiter in the Night.

Transformation of Self is that of Forging a Sword

By Ariana Clausen – Vélez

When we look at the metaphor of one’s transformation of self, it is much like that of forging a sword as well as the path of a shaman.  There are many paths one must take to forge oneself, to define or to find healing from within.

When we look into the mirror at ourselves what do you see?  What part of you, do you need to change?  Are there fears you must overcome?  Do you need to face your past and those things done against you to move forward?  And so many more questions depending on your life.  Transformation of self is self-healing and when you look at the healing one must go thru to transform it is very similar to that of the forging of a sword.

What goes into the casting of a sword?  Iron and Steel were the metals used; Egyptians are the first noted to having the technique using iron and then later passing it along to the Assyrians, Babylon’s and the Greeks.  All mining is from the earth and the soil of the earth, making the metals not only associated to the element of earth, but that of its ruling planet, iron is of Mars, Fire, and Earth.  The forging includes the process of first mining, the melting down to transform it to the desired shape it needs to be cooled during the process to ensure the binding.

Prior to iron, bronze was the metal of choice and it association is to the Earth and that of Venus, Venus is both an Earth and Air in astrology and yet her planet is pure fire and known for heavy volcanic activity.  Then the Iron Age and after the Steel both of these are of Mars and the element of Fire.  Where do these metals come from?, they come from the earth and all metals and stones are mined from the Earth.  So when we look at a sword as a tool or a weapon we are holding in our hands that of all the elements, earth, air, fire and water for these elements are part of the forging and use of the sword, be it literal or metaphorical.

So where does the element of air come in when it deals with the sword in the Occult world?  When we see clearly in many European designs of the Tarot the Sword itself is associated with the element of fire, Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Sun and Mars, summer yet in the Renaissance Tarot the Page of Swords with the Jupiter/Sagittarius that of the eagle and the winds of air.  The nature of the sword is both creative and destructive and it represents and is a symbol of vice, victory, fight, knowledge and is seen in two forms of representing earthly power.  Yet in other decks the sword is that of the element of air, the spring time, Lupercus to Beltaine Eve the colour of yellow as well as lavender the colours of Mercury and the Mercury rules air.  It rules that of the mind, the intellect, thought and the forging of your own world.

When we look at the Thoth Tarot swords and how they are represented it is a blend of traditional astrology with the suits and the Swords here are represented by the nature of all the elements.  What do I mean by the nature of all the elements?  Within the planets in which in the Thoth Tarot are part of  the cards and the images or tools they represent they also are that of the true nature of the planets and signs that rule them.  An example being the Knight of Swords he is ruler of the third face/decan of Taurus into Gemini; Venus rules Taurus and Mercury rules Gemini so here we have that of the Fire and Air as Venus is by nature a fiery, volatile and can be dark in her nature; the planet Venus itself as in the Solar System is made up of nothing but volcanoes and at a heat that no human could stand and it is unstable in her nature.  Gemini is ruled by Mercury is a quick moving sign, he is able to move between the worlds both the living and dead safely, he is in this nature of messages but he does too have a tricky side, he can be unstable and can create conflict as well as resolve it, it is the fiery part of air.  Then the Queen of Swords which is Water of Air ruling the third face of Virgo to the third face of Libra.  Again here we have the nature of Mercury and Venus in yet another energy, Mercury when ruling the sign of Virgo is on the darker side he is more fluid and Venus here is a bit more emotional and can be extremely creative but here too it can be one of eyes closed, an observer keen to notice many things.  It represents the watery part of air the elasticity and transmission of the element.  Then the Prince of Swords which is Air of Air ruling the third face of Capricorn to the third face of Aquarius both ruled by Saturn and yet of very different natures one creates and one destroys, representing the airy part of air, it is intellectual mental, and finally the Princess of Swords which is Earth of Air ruling Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.  When we look at the final example here her nature is dual, it is both destructive and creative, it is the earthy part of air the fixation of the volatile the manifestation of our imagination, it is of resolving conflicts as well as creating them it is of turning the mind against itself and it can cause many of one’s ideas to be turned to stone and is also that of your own inner mental battle.  We see the nature of air, fire, water and earth represented here in the Thoth Tarot discussed here and all are of equal creative and destructive natures.

When looking at the specific imagery of each of these faces we have the following; we have all the elements fire, water, earth and air.  They are all part of the forging of the sword and of forging and transforming oneself through the Mental Universe, as well as mirror to the soul for if a sword is forged right you can see your own reputation in the blade itself, like that of a mirror.

So what really does the sword represent and how in all of this is our transformation like that of forging a sword?

When we look inside and see that we need to make changes in our lives, behaviours, traits, face our fears and demons our character and for many getting to Know Thyself can be the most difficult journey to travel.  Why?  Because we have to be honest with ourselves only, nobody else matters here.  There are many paths we take in life and if we are truly honest allowing ourselves to grow and find a deeper hidden mystery that lies within is what we all seek.  Yet, looking in the mirror that reflects back all truth can for some be very hard and very painful.

In the fourth Rubric of the Emerald Tablet it is the path to all things in the Mental Realm that of connecting to the powers of Above the purest in all things.  Alchemists were always on the search on how to find the how the elements of below (nature) and those of the (above) the heavens manifested to create the four types that each element carries within them.  One wrote of the four grades of fire; Elemental, Secret, Central and Celestial and in this journey to find the grades of fire one is associated with that of the sword and it is the one that is connected to the power of thought, the purest of all forms neither hot, nor cold but a warm nourishing heat.  It is the heavenly inspiration that burns steadily within a person.  This is the Secret Fire it is the higher consciousness, the thoughts from the Above that enlighten us.  It is this thought form that is the highest sense – equivalent to the god Thoth, who speaks only the true Word, which through intonation and vibration acts on matter to create new incarnations of the mind.  (The Emerald Tablet; Alchemy for Personal Transformation, by David William Hauck, chpt 7)

When we are born we are born of a clean slate our life is ahead of us, and as children we are taught many things in which were taught to our parents and all they want is for us to take what they teach us and use it in a way in which will guide us and make us a better person, someone who is a success no matter what we do, to be good others, know right from wrong and so on.  Yet, we ultimately have to make decisions for ourselves and live our lives as the journey takes us.  While many in life have sheltered lives that are controlled, and easy many more in the real world do not, we go on a journey our life experiences as so planned by the planets as they align on our day of physical birth while taking on the nature of our conception birth planet alignments as well.  All of this defines and makes us who we are our experiences we will encounter in life and how we overcome and handle them as we experience.

When we get to a point in our lives where we are feeling like something more is needed, something is missing, a need to gain healing from a past trauma or abuse a need to find your spiritual side of self and the need for a stronger mental connection to the universe.  We must now take a look into that mirror the blade of the sword and we must look to see how too transform.  Transformation a long journey one that can take many years to achieve.  It is a path of looking at yourself honestly and removing the mask in which you have been hiding behind for so many years.  Taking the falsity of who you are and getting rid of it, really looking into your inner soul and the fire that drives you, it is time to transform yourself.

How does this compare to the forging of a sword you ask?

When you are transforming you are initially starting from the beginning you are reforming or redefining yourself.  When we go and look at the way a sword is crafted it beginnings with the earth, the mining of the metal from deep within the soil, then it is processed and then melted down, this is the beginning.  The earth is of the hidden mysteries those things hidden and out of sight things in which we must be willing to look at to know our true self.  Then the process begins the fire is the element used to bring the metal to its liquid form and from here it is poured into a mould to create the form in which is desired.   Fire plays a very large role in the forging of a sword as it does in personal transformation.  Fire is the element of healing, reincarnation, death and if we look at the Phoenix as he rose from ashes the flames of fire he rose from the dead to once again be amongst the living.

First you need to obtain the metal from the mining it from the earth so you have the physical material in which is needed to create the sword, you need the fire in order to place the metal in it in order for it to melt down to a liquid form in order to pour it into the mould in which transforms it, once out of the mould it is hammered down and shaped then it is placed into the ice water to set the sword and once all of this is completed it sets in the air so it can set harden and be fully set into its final form.  This is a lot like what we do as humans to transform we have to start at the beginning and work through the elements one by one, starting with those things in our lives that consist of the earth, our diet, vitamins, our physical and material world those things of the home and our relationships those things that sustain us in the physical world.  Then we have to move onto the mental, going deep into our sub-conscious mind and facing those things in which we fear or have hurt us the most, this is the hardest as we have to open our eyes and look inside and be true to what we must overcome.  In our mind, our sub-conscious mind it holds all things we experience in life, the good, the memories, those experiences that have caused us pain and those are the ones’ that are burying in the deepest part of our mind and those are the ones’ we must force ourselves to face in order to find healing and overcome our fears.  The Mental is always the hardest because it is our brain that all things come from, our words, thoughts, images of self and others, our ideas; all of it is connected in the brain.  This can take years to deal with the mental part of self and it is not easy we have to in our dreams face our worst experiences in life, our pasts, our traumas, fears, and all things.  When we experience a great pain it never truly goes away, you either bury it so deep that you forget about it, until something happens to trigger that memory or it changes you completely in how you look at yourself and others.  Burying it is a way of coping, but for anyone who is of the Occult or any path for that matter it is not the best thing one can do, it is better to deal with it and find a way to overcome the anger, fear, or hurt it has caused you.  Only in this can you be whole mentally.  Once this is completed you move onto the emotions and feelings the part of you that is ruled by the water the element associated with death, darkness, the underworld, love, all things that manifest in your emotions and feelings.  This can be a hard one too as water is that of the ocean, lakes, ponds, rivers, waterfalls, sewers and all bodies of water.  Depending on your personality will determine your body of water in which you best connect with to deal with this part of yourself.  I personally prefer the lakes and waterfalls they are more controlled as they are calmer waters, oceans are associated with a more volatile emotion as it is unstable it can be calm one day and raging the next.  Now, you must face the fiercest of them all the fire, fire is volatile, transforming, liquid, extreme in heat, the underworld the energy of the sun, of all things iron, it is the hottest and most dangerous of them all.  It is the side of self that is the most destructive if you do not have it balanced.  Dealing with this side can be hard for many, especially if they are by nature fiery in how they handle situations.  Here you must learn how to temper rashness, risk anything one would do without first thinking of the consequences following.  This in my younger years got me in many sticky situations.

When we look at all the similarities here when we transform ourselves it is like that of forging a sword.  I have a quote on my website which states “Through the flames of fire comes Transformation.”  This is what I mean and in the end of this process you will have control over yourself and your own personal power.  When you get to this point it is you who are in control of you, not anyone else.

In looking at this do we all need transformation?  I say, Yes.  When we transform we are willing to bring about change not only in our life but in the lives of those around us, we can teach them many things and reveal truths to them they would maybe otherwise not be able to see.  We all have our experiences and we all have areas in our lives in which we need to overcome and find a place of peace and healing and only in the Flames can we find Transformation.
